The new sermon series we’re beginning today "A Journey to Pentecost," begins with an exploration of "Doubt and Belief" through the story of Thomas in John 20:19-31. Set in the weeks following Easter, the message highlights that the disciples’ initial joy was often clouded by fear and uncertainty, as seen when they hid in a locked room. When the resurrected Jesus appeared, He didn't rebuke them for their fear or Thomas for his famous demand for physical proof; instead, He met them with peace, offered His wounds as evidence, and transformed their doubt into a deeper, divine recognition of Him as "Lord and God." Ultimately, the passage teaches that doubt is not the end of faith but an invitation to a more honest relationship with Christ. By staying connected to the community of believers and bringing our questions to God, we can move from paralyzing fear to a commissioned life empowered by the Holy Spirit, resting in Jesus' blessing for those who believe even without seeing.
