Today we’re concluding our study that’s called God’s Authority In The Believer Series. This is Lesson Seven and it’s called “God’s Authority: Risen With Christ.” Believers have full authority through their relationship with Christ. Understanding this authority is important, but even more important is recognizing our position in that authority. Believers share in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. This means we are spiritually united with Him and share in His victory and rulership. Christ is the Head, and believers (His body) carry out His authority. God made Christ the head over everything for the benefit of the Church. Believers, remaining in Him, are called to exercise His authority now. Just as Jesus was sent with power, believers are also sent with that same authority to fulfill His mission. Believers are spiritually made alive together with Christ. Through His victory over sin and death, we are united with Him and share in that triumph. Our old life is gone, and we now live in His resurrection power. Believers are spiritually seated with Christ in heavenly places. This position gives us authority (symbolized by the “keys of the Kingdom”) to act according to God’s Word—binding and loosing, in alignment with His will. To walk effectively in this authority, believers must remain in Christ through obedience and alignment with God’s Word. The Holy Spirit empowers this life. Stepping outside of God’s Word weakens our ability to operate in that authority. The believer’s authority comes from unity with Christ—His death, resurrection, position, and power. By staying rooted in Him and walking in obedience, believers can live out that authority in their daily lives.
