We’re continuing with our new study that’s called The Blood Covenant of Christ Series. This is Lesson Two and it’s called “A Covenant Based On Faith.” The covenant between God and Abraham serves as the foundational narrative of a relationship built on faith, beginning with God calling seventy-five-year-old Abram to leave his ancestral home for an unknown land. This divine bond was formalized through a solemn blood sacrifice where God, appearing as a smoking furnace and a burning lamp, passed between slain animals to ratify an oath that promised Abram offspring as numerous as the stars and the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession. Despite moments of human impatience, such as the birth of Ishmael through Hagar, God remained steadfast, eventually changing the couple's names to Abraham and Sarah to reflect their destiny as the parents of nations and confirming the covenant through the physical sign of circumcision. The birth of Isaac in their old age and the subsequent "ultimate test" on Mount Moriah, where Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son revealed a depth of faith that God rewarded by providing a ram as a substitute. Jesus Christ serves as the perfect, sinless substitute for all humanity. Ultimately, this "everlasting covenant" extends beyond the Hebrew lineage to include all believers through faith in Christ, granting them the same rights of intercession and divine protection that Abraham enjoyed, and ensuring that the promises made to one man would eventually bless all the families of the earth.
